“New Fantasy Comic” – The Lookouts #1 – review
Cryptozoic Entertainment enters the on-going comic area with the aid of a web comic, gone print from Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik creators of Penny Arcade.
This ongoing story will be about a group of young boys who join the Lookouts. As new recruits they must uncover the secrets of the magical Eyrewood Forest. For their achievements in leering to survive the perilous woods, they will earn “Badges. The comic is set to also contain information about the “Badges” and further information about the secrets of the magical forest.
So what did I think of The Lookouts #1?
I am a big fan of stylized comics and fantasy themes in general. I also enjoy comics that are accessible by all ages. The Lookouts nails great storytelling and fantastic art. I was instantly drawn into the world and wanted to know more about Eyrewood Forest. I thought it was very neat that the writers and artists were able to relay their story without excessive gore or blood. A good fantasy tale can be told without gallons of blood and half-naked women, and The Lookouts proves it, not that I mind either. It is however nice to see a title that the younger audience may enjoy as well. If the creative team can keep this title acceptable to a general audience, I think they may have a hit on their hands. I highly recommend The Lookouts for both comic and fantasy fans out there.
