November 5th, 2008 by Jay | Filed under Completed Contest, Fantasy.

The second week of Masterworks Monday as  Dark Sword Miniatures and BookSpot Central join forces and presents George R.R. Martin’s Masterworks Collection! Twenty weeks, twenty figures, up to twenty winners of George R.R. Martin goodness! These are GRRM approved renditions of characters from his A Song of Ice and Fire series produced by the people hand-picked by the man himself. The winner of the first contest for the Jon Snow will be announced tomorrow - so get in on it while you can!

Who is Dark Sword Miniatures?

Dark Sword Miniatures Inc. was founded with the single purpose of creating extremely detailed fantasy miniatures for both miniature collectors and gamers alike. Our pewter fantasy miniatures are in the newer 28mm to 30mm scale which has become the industry standard. Our first four fantasy miniature lines are based on the artwork of famed Dungeons and Dragons and cover artists Larry Elmore, Keith Parkinson (RIP), Clyde Caldwell & Jeff Easley. All four artists have been gaming industry icons for the past 25 years now and their artwork needs no introduction. In addition, Dark Sword Miniatures is also producing premium pewter miniatures based on the works of New York Times best-selling author George R.R. Martin. Our working together with Mr. Martin came about after he noticed the attention to detail and realistic proportions/weapons our miniatures have. Tom Meier, Dennis Mize (RIP), Jeff Grace, Dave Summers and Gael Goumon sculpt our multiple award winning miniature lines. www.DarkSwordMiniatures.com

This week we are presenting Ser Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers!

Some notes on creating it:

Tom really went wild on the armor for Ser Loras as he has some of the most ornate armor in the series. And no, this is not a 54mm mini, it is in the same scale as the rest of our miniature lines. The jousting scene on his breastplate is incredible. When people see this mini in real life (not blown up as large as this is), the work Tom put into this armor will really be evident. George instructed Tom and myself that Ser Loras looks like a young 1970’s teen idol - all pretty and with nice hair. His outside of cloak is made of tiny forget me not flowers sewn together.

These are sculpted by the legendary Tom Meier!

Note that these come unpainted but here are the pics from the painted figure in GRRM’s collection:

Check out the jousting image on the armor!

While we wait to find out what happened to him as he apparently stormed Dragonstone you can have him all pristine-like next to all the copies of ASOIAF you have (if you’re like me for some reason you have copies in languages you don’t speak nor read!) on the shelf!

I want to thank Dark Sword Miniatures for allowing us to present and offer these beautiful miniatures to our readers. Please visit their website to look at what may be coming up next here and their other lines.
